Food Homestay Street food Temple in Spain

My top three restaurants in Oviedo

As you all probably know, Spain is well-known for its cuisine and gastronomical culture, and Asturias, where Oviedo is located, is one of the most famous regions because of its traditional meals. Restaurants and good food are abundant in Oviedo, and it can be difficult to choose from all the options. However, I am going to give you some recommendations and the price-quality ratio.

TIERRASTUR

Tierrastur is a famous restaurant branch located throughout Asturias. It offers a decent price-quality relationship and specializes in traditional meals. There are three different Tierrastur restaurants in Oviedo, and they are all located along Gascona street, a bustling avenue full of sidrerías and restaurants where people usually hang out to enjoy good sidra and food. I would recommend trying some cheese boards, as the north of Spain has a plenty of local cheeses, and some parrillada, which is a meat board with different types of meat such as ribs, chops or chicken.

EL GATO NEGRO

El Gato Negro, a sidrería located five minutes’ walk from the cathedral, offers interesting representations of traditional dishes in addition to the classic versions. One of the must-try here is the tortos, a traditional Asturian dish made of corn tortillas filled with different toppings such as scrambled eggs with chorizo, blue cheese or pork. Personally, if you like meat, I would recommend their morcilla with applesauce; it might seem a weird combination at first, but it will be a great surprise when trying!

This place is perfect for both going to dinner with your friends and having a pleasant meal with your host family. The first time I went there I was impressed by the quality of the food, as well as the good customer service they provide. I would recommend trying as many dishes as possible by sharing them with your friends—it is totally worth it!

LA CORTE DE PELAYO

This is one of the most formal restaurants in Oviedo and one of my favorites along with El Gato Negro. This is the most expensive restaurant of the three, but it is worth it for any celebration or special meal since it is one of the best cuisines in the city and has one of the best views as well. Located on Calle Uría, in the heart of Oviedo, the restaurant is divided into two floors with different dining rooms and has a huge glass window that allows you to appreciate the views while enjoying the food.

It has won several awards for best cachopo, a traditional fried meat dish made of two steaks with different fillings, and fabada, a local bean stew.

Apart from these, Oviedo has plenty of restaurants where you can enjoy a three-course meal menu with water, bread and dessert included for prices from 10 to 15 euros. These are the best options if you are looking to try as many places and traditional food as possible.

I hope you enjoy my recommendations and stay tuned for more tips on navigating Oviedo.
