Discover Study Abroad MG Ling Peer Advisor Senior Scholar

Inside scoop on being a Peer Advisor

After studying abroad during the spring 2020 term through one of our exchange programs at National Taiwan University, I took advantage of the chance to apply to the peer advisor position in the Education Abroad Office. Since being offered the job position in summer of 2021, I have thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.

Being a study abroad peer advisor is a unique and rewarding experience. As a peer advisor, you have the opportunity to guide and support fellow students who are interested in studying abroad. You get to share your own experiences and insights, offer advice and resources, and help students navigate the process of applying for and planning a study abroad program. Not only do you get to help others, but you also develop important skills such as communication, leadership, and problem-solving. You also gain a deeper understanding of different cultures and perspectives and learn how to work with people from diverse backgrounds. Being a study abroad peer advisor can be challenging at times, but it is ultimately a fulfilling and enriching role that can have a positive impact on the lives of others. Not to mention, we are given a chance to participate in events and raise awareness about the Education Abroad Office’s mission. In addition to outreach, we enjoy working on various projects such as creating Tiktoks and Instagram posts, collaborating with other organizations, and creating a lifetime of memories.

Undoubtedly, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career. This experience has allowed me to interact with people from diverse backgrounds, expand my knowledge, and genuinely look forward to coming to work just to name a few.

If you are looking for a job that offers creative expression, and a desire to enhance your communication skills, and expand your knowledge of different cultures and backgrounds, then this may be a great opportunity for you.
